Plan an Easy Summer Get-Together!

Plan an Easy Summer Get-Together!

Now that summer is here, don’t let it fly by without planning at least one memorable event that you and those close to you will cherish long after the season’s sun-drenched days have passed. Don’t worry…it doesn’t take a lot of effort to plan a big day out. Simply schedule a time and place, make a few calls and do a little delegating. Try one of our easy and fun suggestions below and check out some great recipes:

Starry, Starry Night
Organize a late afternoon or early evening open house in the backyard where family, friends and neighbors are invited to stargaze over a casual, potluck dinner. Suggest and serve fresh seasonal foods such as corn on the cob, zucchini squash, Alaskan salmon, watermelon and peach pie. Break out the astronomy books and have a stellar time!

Shop ’Til You Drop’
Get the girls together for coffee and pastries in the morning before setting out for an adventurous day of shopping. Go to your favorite nearby mall or make a road trip of it by going to the best outlet mall within driving distance. When you return, have each person model their new purchases in a spontaneous fashion show or throw a little “wrap party” for new purchases that are gifts.

Go to a Garden Party!
Throw a Garden Block Party with your neighbors by having families open up their yards for a day. Offer barbecue fare and different refreshments at each house, plus an assortment of fun activities for kids and adults. Set up craft tables in driveways, feature lawn sports and games including colorful hopscotch on the sidewalk. You can even designate a play area for the pets!

Take a Sunset Drive
Plan a sunset excursion with friends and family. Find a locale close to home that offers stunning twilight views, or explore the scenery at a nearby park, nature reserve or hiking trail. Not only do walking excursions keep everyone physically fit, they are a relaxing way to enjoy warm summer nights. Bring a camera to capture the sunset and the smiling faces that came with you!

Life’s a Beach
Even if you don’t live along the coast, there’s no better way to cool off those hot summer days than by spending time in the water. Pool parties are always fun for the kids, but for a truly memorable occasion, gather loved ones for a picnic at a nearby beach, lake or river. Make a day of it and rent a raft or canoe, go inner tubing, water ski, or catch some waves on a boogie board.
